We’ll be sharing simple new tips on removing barriers for visitors with visual impairments at our Family Arts Conference session this winter.
The North East Family Arts Network (NEFAN) will be one of the Changemakers and Storytellers revealing key learnings at the UK’s largest family arts and culture conference. It’s due to be hosted at Northern Stage in Newcastle in February 2026.
Our first Mystery Visit, run in partnership with Durham Cathedral and Healthworks Useful Vision, focused on a family visit to the World Heritage Site’s Magna Carta exhibition. While the Cathedral had already put in place many features to enable access, the family’s visit was able to highlight more easy, affordable steps they could take to remove barriers for visitors with visual impairment.
Culture sector organisations are invited to join us at our 4.15pm session, Managing a Mystery Visit: Learnings from a child with visual impairment, to:
- Discover what we learnt from this Mystery Visit
- Get practical tips on setting up your own Mystery Visits including the benefits and potential challenges
- Learn more about the lived experience of visual impairment from our partners, Healthworks Useful Vision
- Ask questions so you can tailor the information to your organisation
The Family Arts Conference is a fantastic opportunity to access cutting edge learning and network with likeminded cultural organisations. We’re so pleased the event is being hosted in our brilliant North East region this year and are looking forward to catching up with you there.
